Kian Cadena
Kian is a student psychotherapist who is passionate about learning and deeply committed to supporting his community. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy from Queen’s University and is currently completing the Master of Science in Psychotherapy program at McMaster University. His experience working in sexual assault survivor centres and addiction rehabilitation has shaped a compassionate, thoughtful approach to care.
Kian’s clinical work currently draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help clients improve their quality of life. He is also expanding his approach by studying Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) and other emotion-focused therapies, with the goal of offering clients a flexible and personalized therapeutic experience.
Kian brings a wide range of interests into his work, including neuroscience, post-structuralist thought, queer and feminist studies, linguistics, history, and Indian philosophies of life. As a queer person and an immigrant of Mexican-Iranian heritage, he understands how important it is to find a mental health space that feels safe, affirming, and respectful. He is especially passionate about working with queer clients and building an anti-racist practice.
Outside of therapy, Kian enjoys horror and mystery movies, playing video games with friends, and spending time reading and writing.
