Kathleen Kinsella

Kathleen is a warm, relationship-focused psychotherapy intern who emphasizes authenticity and emotional attunement in her developing practice. She welcomes clients to come as they are, on good days or difficult ones. Kathleen takes a reflective approach to support empathy and connection, while keeping each client’s unique goals and needs at the center of the therapy process.

Kathleen enjoys working with clients interested in exploring early relational experiences and how these may shape present-day relationships. She has a special interest in supporting adolescents and emerging adults navigating identity, belonging, and purpose. She is also interested in exploring the subconscious through symbols, metaphor, and art-based practices.

Kathleen’s therapy practice is informed by over ten years of experience as an educator in post-secondary settings. In the classroom, she has supported students navigating life transitions, academic stress, and evolving social environments. Through this work, she developed a strong appreciation for the value of a non-judgmental, supportive presence in helping individuals clarify priorities, reduce isolation, and normalize challenges common to this stage of life.

Kathleen is currently completing a CRPO-recognized Certificate in Psychotherapyat the Toronto Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling Education and is practicing under clinical supervision. She holds a PhD in Social Geography from McMaster University.

Kathleen's training and experience include crisis support as a responder with the Distress Centres of Greater Toronto and the Canada Suicide Prevention Service. In this role she provided emotional support to individuals experiencing acute distress.

Grounded in the therapeutic relationship, Kathleen draws from foundational concepts inpsychodynamic, attachment-based and relational psychotherapy, while also incorporating mindfulness, expressive arts, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) techniques.

Kathleen is committed to ongoing learning, cultural humility, decolonization, and providing a neurodiversity- and LGBTQIA2S+-affirming practice.
